“So,” Darren starts, where he’s sitting next to Chris on the couch. “Babies.”
And he’s gesturing to baby Logan, who’s sleeping in Lea’s arms, while she and Dianna coo over him quietly. Chris turns his head to him and smiles softly. “Babies,” he agrees.
“They’re pretty cute,” Darren tells him, and before Chris can slap his hand away like he usually does, Darren’s sliding a hand on his thigh, squeezing tightly. He knows where this is going, and he’s not sure he’s ready to have this conversation yet, but Darren is nothing if not persistent. “And they smell alright most of the time.”
“Qualities you should really work on,” Chris teases, nodding along. There’s a sharp pinch to his thigh, and he chuckles fondly, finally shrugging Darren’s hand off him. “Why the sudden revelation about small children and their scents, Dare?”
Hannah texts Darren. That’s all it takes.
You should date my brother.
Uh… I didn’t know you had a brother?
This is Hannah.
Oh! Stole your brother’s phone, huh?
Yes.
Sneaky.
You should date him.
Okay?
Really.
I don’t think he’d agree with you.
No but he would.
What makes you so sure?
He’s often sad.
What? Why?
I don’t know. He won’t tell me.
Well he hasn’t told me, either.
He’s not sad when he talks about you.

“Why am I doing this?” Chris ponders aloud as he digs the heels of his palms into Darren’s back. “I am, like, twelve times more tense than you at any given moment, and yet I’m giving you the massage.”
“Stop stressin’ ‘bout it,” Darren slurs through a smile, obviously pleased with himself. His head is resting on his folded arms, and his eyes haven’t opened in at least five minutes.
Chris karate chops his spine.
“Chris and I, uh, we had a uh, very intense moments together where uh, went places, to say the least.”
